Application of rare earth element Praseodymium (pr)

Application of rare earth element Praseodymium (pr).

Praseodymium (Pr) About 160 years ago, Swedish Mosander discovered a new element from lanthanum, but it is not a single element. Mosander found that the nature of this element is very similar to lanthanum, and named it "Pr-Nd". "Praseodymium and Neodymium" means "twins" in Greek. About 40 years later, that is, in 1885, when the steam lamp mantle was invented,Austrian Welsbach successfully separated two elements from "praseodymium and neodymium", one named "neodymium" and the other named "praseodymium". This kind of "twin" is separated, and the praseodymium element has its own vast world to display its talents. Praseodymium is a rare earth element with a large amount, which is used in glass, ceramics and magnetic materials.

The wide application of praseodymium:

(1) Praseodymium is widely used in building ceramics and daily-use ceramics. It can be mixed with ceramic glaze to make colored glaze, and can also be used as an underglaze pigment alone. The pigment made is light yellow with pure and elegant color.

(2) Used for manufacturing permanent magnets. Choosing cheap praseodymium and neodymium metal instead of pure neodymium metal to manufacture permanent magnet material can obviously improve its oxygen resistance and mechanical properties, and can be processed into magnets of various shapes. Widely used in various electronic devices and motors.

(3) for petroleum catalytic cracking. Adding the enriched praseodymium and neodymium into Y zeolite molecular sieve to prepare petroleum cracking catalyst can improve the activity, selectivity and stability of the catalyst. China began to put into industrial use in 1970s, and its consumption is increasing.

(4) Praseodymium can also be used for abrasive polishing. In addition, praseodymium is widely used in the field of optical fiber.
